Cloud migration jokes and memes to help you find your silver lining

Is IT looking for a bit of light relief? Need a joke for the cloud consultant in your life? Look no further than our compendium of cloud jokes and memes.

Is IT looking for a bit of light relief? Need a joke for the cloud consultant in your life? Look no further than our compendium of cloud jokes and memes.

Did you hear the one about the curious kid who asked her Mum what clouds were made of? Unfortunately for her, Mum was a cloud consultant. The answer: "Linux servers, mostly."

This is just one of the jokes that made AT&T's 2018
list of "Best Cloud Tech Jokes and Memes". And hats off to whoever came up with it: it certainly made us smile.

But here at Ascend Cloud Solutions, we take our humour very seriously. This joke illustrates one of the pitfalls of jokes and memes about cloud technology. Essentially, it's this. Does every cloud joke need to be about, well, clouds?

In that spirit, we hope this list of some of our favourite cloud jokes and memes does double duty. First, it gives you some material for your next team meeting or conference. And second, it goes to show that there are as many varieties of cloud jokes as there are software offerings from VMware (sorry).

First up: a joke at our own expense.

1. Is cloud computing the answer to everything?

Look, we're as guilty of it as the next cloud consultant. Not only, we enthuse, will cloud migration unlock cost savings and efficiencies in your business, but it will also make you funnier, more beautiful, kinder…

This tendency to hype up the cloud is reflected in our first meme. In it, a schoolboy shows the answers to his test.

Do you know somebody like this boy's dad? If you work in IT, the answer's probably "yes".

2. What are the limits of the cloud?

In Shakespeare's
Macbeth, our hero is having a hard time. He asks his doctor if he can cure "a mind diseased" and his doctor replies: "Therein must the patient / Minister to himself". In other words: ball's in your court, Macbeth.

The same is true of human behaviour when using the cloud. The cloud can do many things. But it can't make you more organised. That's your responsibility. But as this meme suggests, that could work in your favour…

3. What will aliens make of the cloud?

It's a scene familiar from sci-fi. Two aliens stand in the wreckage of human civilisation – but they're having trouble interpreting the history books.

"According to this," one says, "the planet Earth was once populated by humans, then in 2012… they all moved to the cloud."

So close, alien overlord, yet so far.

4. Everyone was a beginner once

When you know something, it's easy to laugh at people who don't. But let's be real: there was a time when even you didn't know your private from your public cloud.

Even so, we couldn't help but laugh at this poor guy's attempts to move his workloads to the cloud. That catapult must have set him back, for starters…

5. Dad jokes for cloud dads

TD Synnex
decided to do the dads of the world a favour with its list of tech jokes for dads. "Particularly when life gets difficult," its correspondent said, "that right amount of dad humour at the right time can be exactly what you need in those challenging moments."

First up, there's a variation on a classic:

Person A: "I'm in need of a hybrid cloud migration and cybersecurity assessment amid our digital transformation efforts."

Person B: "Hi, 'In Need of a Hybrid Cloud Migration and Cybersecurity Assessment Amid Our Digital Transformation Efforts'. I'm Dad!"

And secondly, a joke worthy of any cracker:

Question: why couldn't the restaurant owners open a new data centre?

Answer: they didn't have enough servers.

And, if you'll let us build on the joke, it wasn't just the lack of servers that was a problem. They just didn't have the backbone to go ahead with it.

6. Cloud jargon gets a ribbing

AWS and Azure: who would win in a fight?

Both services are powerful offerings. But if this fight involved a round of "user-friendly naming", the gong would have to go to Azure.

One
Twitter user came up with this Simpsons-based meme to poke fun at AWS's tendency to come up with flashy but obscure names for its services. But let's face it: it's not just AWS who are guilty of this in the cloud world.

7. Is cloud computing a cure for hypertension?

Open
The Penguin Book of Stating the Obvious and you'll see on page one: "Running a business can be stressful".

Reducing stress in the workplace is an industry in itself, full of communication strategies, team lunches and wellness spaces. But could cloud migration do the job? The creator of this meme certainly thinks so.

8. Everyone was a beginner once (part two)

Here at Ascend Cloud Solutions, we know a lot about cloud computing. And it's no exaggeration to say that cloud computing is niche with a capital "N". The sheer range of products is enough to put most heads in a spin – but we've got it covered.

We know, though, that our customers aren't always cloud-proficient. Some of them know a bit but not much. Others know very little. We always take this into account and prioritise clear communication above all else.

So if you feel like the reader in this cartoon, don't worry: we'll talk to you in a language you can understand.

Final thoughts

Ask someone in the street if they think the world of cloud computing is ripe for humour and they'll probably say "no" – if they understand what on Earth you're talking about. But every sector has its jokes and memes, and cloud computing is no different. We hope we've raised a smile!

At Ascend Cloud Solutions, we know that cloud migration is no joke. It can take your business to the next level – but it needs to be done properly. So if you're looking for an experienced
cloud computing consultancy with over 400 successful migrations under its belt, let's talk. We'd love to help you make the move.
