  • What are NSX-T and NSX-V?

    NSX-T and NSX-V are iterations of VMware's NSX network virtualisation platform. NSX is a software-defined networking solution, meaning it allows you to create a networking infrastructure that's abstracted from the hardware it runs on.


    NSX-T was launched in 2017. The previous iteration, NSX-V, started being phased out in 2018.

  • What does NSX-T stand for?

    'NSX' is a brand name. The 'T' stands for 'transformers', referring to the software's ability to transform networks beyond the (comparatively) limited use cases of NSX-V.

  • What are my migration options?

    Our customers typically use one of two NSX-V to T migration methods. These are:


    Lift and shift migration: This approach requires new or repurposed hardware. It involves deploying a new NSX-T infrastructure that runs in parallel to the old NSX-V infrastructure. Once the infrastructures are in place, you gradually 'lift and shift' workloads from the old to the new.


    In-place migration: This method requires no additional hardware. Instead, it relies on a built-in NSX-T component called NSX Migration Coordinator to migrate hosts, edges and configurations in software.
