On September 19th, we're delighted to be joining representatives from Oracle at the Montenotte Hotel right here in beautiful Cork.
It's shaping up to be a morning of fascinating talks on a range of topics that any cloud-native enterprise or institution could benefit from.
At Ascend Cloud Solutions, we believe that technology and business are partners, but never sparring partners. The purpose of cloud modernisation is to help businesses grow– never tech for tech's sake.
We'll be bringing this philosophy to the Oracle Cloud Experience Day. We're delighted to have the opportunity to share with attendees the many ways that Oracle Cloud's suite of offerings can help businesses cut costs, boost performance and achieve their long-term goals.
In this blog post, we're going to give you a taste of what you can expect from the talks. We look forward to seeing you there!

Oracle Cloud overview (Neil Mitchell, Oracle)
Oracle Cloud is one of the major players in today's cloud market. But it has key advantages over its competitors.
In this talk, Oracle's Neil Mitchell will be giving us a whistle-stop tour of Oracle Cloud. It will cover both the platforms features and, crucially, how it's helped businesses to grow – and how it could help yours.
Perhaps you're getting ready to migrate mission-critical workloads. Perhaps you're looking for an environment finely-tuned for building cloud-native applications. Or perhaps you're looking for a cloud environment that provides better bang for your buck and a higher level of performance.
Sound like you? Then you won't want to miss this informative, engaging talk on Oracle's industry-leading cloud platform.
10:00 - 10:45 – Eoin Hardwicke and Mike Hogan, Ascend Cloud Solutions
These days, cloud solutions are ten a penny– but they'll cost you a bit more than that. In this landscape, it can be difficult to choose one solution over the other.
At Ascend, we're cloud-agnostic, meaning we'll get you from A to B regardless of where you start and where you end up. But we do think that Oracle Cloud VMware Solution is an especially agile, versatile and cost-effective solution.
In this talk, our very own Eoin Hardwicke and Mike Hogan will be introducing attendees to Oracle Cloud VMware Solutions: what it is, how it works, and why businesses should consider adopting it.
(Spoilers: it helps enterprises consolidate their data centres and scale their resources with no loss of administrative control or business continuity. Sounds pretty good, right?)
This talk promises to balance technical insights with business intelligence. We hope it sheds some light on how this platform can transform your operations.

Coffee break
11:00 - 11:30
Modern Data Platform including 23ai – Jeremy Nagle, Oracle
In this talk, Oracle's Jeremy Nagle gives you the lowdown on Oracle Modern Data Platform. This offering dramatically simplifies the end-to-end data lifecycle – and gives you actionable insights at speed.
If you feel as though your data is sprawling out of your grasp, Modern Data Platform provides you with a single platform that helps you collect, curate and manage all your assets, be they transactional, warehouse, analytical, or related to AI and ML.
Then there's Oracle 23ai – a database which, as its name suggests, harnesses the ever-evolving power of AI to furnish you with data-driven business insights.
For more than four decades, Oracle Database has given enterprises the ability to efficiently manage, store and retrieve huge quantities of data. But its latest offering, Oracle Database 23ai, does things a little differently.
It's as robust, scalable and secure as its predecessors. But 23ai also focuses on helping developers and DBAs to develop and run data-driven apps.
Jeremy is currently the technology lead for Oracle in Ireland. He's passionate and engaging on the subject of how organisations can leverage data analytics, ML, AI and big data to achieve their goals. Could Oracle Modern Data Platform help you achieve yours?
11:30 - 12:00
Estate Modernisation – Keith Eccles (Oracle) in discussion with Donal Milne, CIO of Trinity College
Is your business looking to unlock cost savings, reduce operational risks and open up new revenue streams? It may be time to modernise your estate.
Estate modernisation is the process of modernising the suite of applications that makes up your IT environments. It's a process that Oracle has mastered, helping businesses across the world accelerate their ambitions.
Oracle achieves this through its versatile, high-performance software, platforms, automation and other services. These can help meet your immediate needs, augment your existing capabilities and optimise your operations.
Not only that, but Oracle is the only vendor on the scene whose suite of apps, platforms and infrastructure can be used in both public and private cloud environments.
For this talk, Keith Eccles from Oracle will be joined by the CIO of Trinity College, Donal Milne. Donal will be offering insights into the ongoing estate modernisation at Trinity.
This conversation promises to be an invaluable insight into how IT environments can perform better at a lower cost, along with challenges and considerations drawn from a real-life case study.
